The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” Genesis 3:1 NLT
The serpent in the garden was none other than Satan himself. Here he is challenging God’s love by asking Eve, “Did God really say you shouldn’t eat any of the fruits in the garden?” He was really asking, “Why would a God who loves you keep you from something good?” He was challenging God’s rule designed to keep Eve safe. Eve replied that she was obeying God’s rule, but Satan convinced her that it was ok to break it. Satan’s attack on God’s Word caused Eve to question the reliability of God’s blueprint for her life and she fell for it.
In Sports, the rules are designed to keep the competitors safe. In fact, in all areas of life there are rules to be followed. Rules are designed to keep people from harm, things fare, and for life to be enjoyed. God has always given humanity rules to follow in His Word not because He wants to keep us from anything fun but, for the reason of us being able to live life to its fullest enjoying the time we have. Once we start changing God’s Word, we leave the door open to anything—trusting anything that feels true in the moment—and that is dangerous territory.
God, thank you for the reminder to trust in Your Word for the blueprints of our lives.
