You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.” Genesis 4:7 NLT
Abel was angry that his offering to God was rejected because he gave it with a poor attitude and perhaps out of obligation. God told him this would not be the case if he did what was right (giving out of gratitude). His refusal to do things the way God asked left him vulnerable to sin’s desire to control him.
Being truly grateful for all that God has given means that we should willingly spend time with Him (reading the Bible and in prayer). We should willingly give (the first 10% of our income to the church). We should willingly be an active participant (in the local church). None of these things should be done out of obligation but instead with a good attitude and a grateful heart for that God has done and given us. A bad attitude and obligatory serving leads to rebellion and rebellion leaves us vulnerable to sins control.
God, thank you for the reminder today to check my attitude at the door and to come to you with a grateful heart in all that I do.
